I asked Instagram for recommendations and I got 1 response from someone who lived in Iowa for 18 years and she said, "I'm at a loss." No worries, sometimes a nice chill day or 2 is necessary to keep this pace up.
Cedar Rapids: We drove through Cedar Rapids and yes, it was Sunday, but I think they could've filmed the Walking Dead here! Nothing was open and no one on the streets. It was kind of creepy for a bigger city like that to be empty. But, the search for sweet corn was on! We grabbed food at 30hop. Everything we got was really good, and they were very kind to Lucy on the patio! Plus, there was a great organic grocery store right next door and we were able to stock up.
Harvest Host came through with another very convenient unique stop. We stayed the night at Airport National Public Golf which had a 27 hole course, mini golf, and a driving range.
Des Moines: I always try to find unique stops along the way, and made sure we stopped in Des Moines to see the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. You'll only need about 30 minutes here, but each art piece has a QR code you can scan to learn more. I believe there was also a phone number you could call for the recorded message about each one. Did I NEED to see it? Nah, but I like the picture of Lucy and I in the one sculpture.
The Ugly: I know RV life will come with its share of setbacks. Our first minor-ish one is our propane. We use propane to run our hot water heater, stove, generator, and refrigerator. When we filled it last, we swore the guy didn't really know what he was doing. We THINK we have a lot of air in our lines so our pilot light on the refrigerator won't stay lit. Of course it's a holiday weekend and nothing is open. We got it lit last night and it stayed lit until today. We can run on electric, but definitely need to get this figured out. I hope we can bleed the line once we get someone to refill us. Hopefully someone who knows what they're doing!
