Zion National Park and Las Vegas

Wow! We packed a lot into the past few days. Instead of going in chronological order, I’ll highlight our top spots. 1. Zion National Park in Utah

I can absolutely see why this is one of the most visited parks. They’ve got a pretty good system though. Just outside the park there’s tons of restaurants, shops, and paid parking. We arrived after 2 and were able to park in the park for free. You cannot drive through the park at all right now. You can either hike, bike, or take the free shuttle. We opted to bike and I’m so glad we did!

Here’s the bike ride from the furthest part back to the visitor center. So that’s about 12 miles in 36 seconds.

2. Red Rocks Canyon in Nevada

Red Rocks Canyon is a short day trip if you’re in Vegas and need a break from the crowds and city life. We did the short 12 mile scenic loop drive. It was a very easy one way drive. There’s a lot of hikes you can do, but we just drove the loop.

3. Hoover Dam in Nevada/Arizona

Another day trip if you’re in Vegas wanted a break and you’re up for seeing who has the best dam jokes. It took us about 45 minutes to get there. They do have a dam security check and did walk through our vehicle. There’s tons of dam parking and everything is free unless you do a dam tour. We had Lucy so we just walked around. It’s pretty amazing to see especially knowing it was done in the 1930s. Did you know there was a dog that showed up during the construction and just stayed? He was sleeping under a car and was accidentally killed. He’s buried at the dam. So, Lucy got her picture with the dam dog.

4. Vegas/Summerlin

I haven’t seen any other city with as much new construction as the Vegas suburbs. But they seem to be doing it right. The roads are huge, tons of restaurants, and shopping. This is where we ate at Lazy Dog that had great food and a dog menu.

We ended our amazing Vegas stay with a pool pawty with our Instagram friends that are now friends in real life!

Oh, and all you can eat sushI from Sushi Bomb… and before you judge it’s anything on the menu (some things you can only get 1 roll). They’ll even do half rolls so you can try more things. It was amazing.

Camping:

We used Harvest Host and stayed at Las Vegas National Golf Course. This course is known as the place where the Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Joey Bishop, and Sammy Davis Jr.) would play and hang out. In 1995, the movie Casino had scenes shot here. (The scene where the plane lands on the greens was there.) The staff was amazing here. Definitely a good stop.

Back on the road!! 🚐💨
